Charles Coomer, Jr.

Charles Coomer, Jr., 70, of Lexington, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at his residence. He was born on March 28, 1947 in Scott County, Indiana, the son of the late Nathan and Rettie (Barrett) Coomer. Charles was the retired owner and operator of Coomer’s Constrution Company in Lexington, Indiana, which he operated for 55 years. He was a member of the Solid Rock Church near Austin, Indiana and served during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army. Charles was a volunteer Firefighter and Chief Engineer over the Trucks at the Johnson Township Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He loved to fish, hunt and go camping. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Corbitt Dale Coomer; three brothers, Robert, Russell Lee and Fred Coomer and a sister, Elsie Disbro. Survivors include his companion, Lois Coomer; four daughters, Pam Reeves and husband Dennis of Scottsburg, Indiana, Melissa Colwell and husband Bill of Lexington, Indiana, Rettie Brown and husband John of Deputy, Indiana and Tracey Fitzhugh of Scottsburg, Indiana; two sons, Brent McVey and wife Tracey of Scottsburg, Indiana and Chucky Coomer and wife Lily of Lexington, Indiana; three sisters, Dorie Baker and Bertha Campbell both of Austin, Indiana and Betty Sue Anthony of Crothersville, Indiana; three brothers, Frank Coomer of Austin, Indiana and Delmar Coomer and Willie Coomer both of Scottsburg, Indiana; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Memorial Contributions to: To the family for funeral expenses c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.

Funeral Service: 11:00 am Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Collins Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Shuler officiating. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Monday and after 9 am Tuesday at Collins Funeral Home. Interment will be in New Providence Cemetery.
