Dorothy Maxine Sipe

Dorothy Maxine Sipe, 90, of Scottsburg, formerly of Deputy, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on October 10, 1927 in Champagne, Illinois, the daughter of the late George Allen Crafts, Sr. and Hazel Rosetta (Martin) Crafts. She was married on Dec. 28, 1945 to Irvin Sipe, who preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 1984. Dorothy was a member of the Scottsburg High School Class of 1945. She was most proud of being a stay at home wife and mother and didn’t work outside of her home until all her children were nearly grown. Dorothy retired in 1987 as the assistant postmaster of the Deputy Post Office in Deputy, Indiana, where she worked for 20 years. She was a member of the Scaffold Lick Baptist Church in Lexington, Indiana and the Moose Family Center # 2324, where she enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends. Dorothy had numerous hobbies including crochet, sewing, making bead art, baking and fishing. Dorothy loved music, was a self taught musician and played the organ, the omnichord and the accordian. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Leo and Bobby Gene Sipe; three brothers, Delmar, Bramwell and George Crafts, Jr. and two sisters, Nora Mae Hall and Ruth Ferguson. Survivors include four daughters, Sharron Marion and husband Roy and Mary Combs and husband David all of Lexington, Indiana, Lynnetta Spry and husband Randy of Deputy, Indiana and Louise Deeg and husband Mike of Richland, Indiana; ten grandchildren, David Campbell (Mary), Troy Marion (Stephanie), Lisa Fears (Grant), Teresa Clark (Jeff), Erin Combs, Randy Spry, Jr. and Ronnie Spry, Richie DeWeese (Amanda), Jeremy Deeg and Amber Giddings (Chris Carrier); twenty great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Funeral Service: 11:00 am Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Collins Funeral Home with Deanna Jackson officiating. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Monday and after 10 am Tuesday. Interment will be in Pisgah Cemetery in Deputy, Indiana.
