Jean E. Floyd

Jean E. Floyd, 85 of Seymour, Indiana, formerly of Scottsburg, passed away on May 19, 2018 at Seymour Crossing.. She was born June 1, 1932 daughter of Albert Pike Evans and Martha Ellen (Carrier) Evans. Jean was married on February 27, 1953 to Wallace F. Floyd, who preceded her in death on March 27, 2011. She was elected and served the community as the Clerk of Scott County for eight years. Prior to that, she was Deputy Clerk for eight years under her sister Marie Lizenby. Jean enjoyed golfing with her family and friends in several different locations in Indiana and many other states. She was privileged to see some of the most accomplished golfers of her time in some of the big tournaments with her husband and family. Jean and Wally loved to dance. She said of herself that she was “a wealth of useless information”, which she could have easily used to win her favorite show Jeopardy. After she retired, Jean loved working crossword puzzles and word search. She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Seymour for over 25 years and enjoyed her Sunday School Class most of all. She was preceded in death by five brothers Morris, William, Clarence, Charles and Albert Evans, Jr.; four sisters Katie Lowry, Marie Lizenby, Bea York and Mary Johnson and her great-granddaughter, Savannah Raye Akemon. Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Campbell Morgan and Marjean “Jennie” Hoene and her husband Phil all of Seymour, Indiana; a sister-in-law, Ruth Evans of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Shawn Akemon (Pam), Erika Hunteman (Brian) and Cami Hoene; seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild and too many beloved nieces and nephews to mention! Memorial Contributions: Hospice of South Central Indiana or Scottsburg Cemetery c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.

Funeral Service: 7:00 PM Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Rev. Larry Tingle, officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday. Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Thursday at Scottsburg Cemetery.
