Maebell Charley

Maebell Charley, 81, of Lexington, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at her daughter’s home surrounded by her family. She was born on August 16, 1937 in Prescott, Arizona, the daughter of the late Lyle Donovan Johnson and Beulah Esther (Frost) Charley. Maebell was married on July 3, 1953 to Shelby L. Charley Sr., who preceded her in death on August 21, 2015. She was a medication aide for the old Englishton Park in Lexington, Indiana for 10 years, worked at Scott County Home Health as a Home Health Aide for 10 years and also had worked at several area nursing homes. Maebell was very proud that she and her husband served for 19 years as foster parents for multiple children in Clark County. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Scottsburg, Indiana. In addition to her husband Maebell was preceded in death by two sons, William Joseph and Shelby L. Charley, Jr.; a granddaughter, Heather Christine Anderson; three brothers, Merle, Charles Edward and Dale Richard Johnson and one sister, Ella Louise Johnson. Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Thompson and her husband Carey and Karen Anderson and her husband Benny all of Lexington, Indiana; a son, Roger Smith of Greenville, South Carolina; a brother, Donovon Lyle Johnson, Jr. of Ash Fork, Arizona; two sisters, Sharyl Pulliam of Salem, Indiana and Carol Sloan and her husband Richard of Milltown, Indiana; six grandchildren, Bobbi Henson and her husband Johnny, Shirley Marie, Steven and Jacob Charley, Ethan Anderson and his wife Kelsie and Dustin Smith and his wife Holly; nine great -grandchildren, Shae and Noah Henson, Hope Perdue, Chantel, Jalin, David and Matthew Charley, Jaxon Anderson and Aiden Smith and one great-great granddaughter, Addison Charley. Funeral Service: 11:00 am on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Richard Morgan and Tim Stevens officiating. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm on Thursday and after 10 am on Friday.
